AASHTO sections are typically used for railroad, or other private entity, bridge construction when a standard wide flange (WF) girder section does not meet the project design criteria. The top flange of AASHTO shaped girders is not as wide as standard (WF) flange beams making AASHTO a preferred design choice for bridges located in a roadway curve.
Spancast can produce type III and IV grade girders that are designed for use with a composite concrete field-cast deck.
Bulb-T Bridge Beams have surpassed the older AASHTO Girders. They are 18% more efficient than their predecessor. Bulb-T’s can be used on single spans or post-tensioned on site for longer spans up to 270ft (82m). Post-tensioned beams eliminate the need for costly intermediate piers especially when spanning rivers, gorges or flood plains.
The integral bridge deck also eliminates expensive formwork providing a ready surface for either asphalt or the pouring of a composite concrete topping as dictated by design.
Box Culverts are recommended for spans from 5ft to 16.5ft (1.5m – 5m)- The Culvert can be designed to meet most bridge loading requirements. This total precast system is very competitive when compared to other bridge systems because it is not only stronger and more consistent but erects quickly.
In so doing it minimizes disruption to traffic when it is being used to replace failed structures. It also allows faster completion and handover to clients.
